Dutchman Bjorn Bulk is fast becoming the Lionel Messi of Footgolf, Bulk from Amsterdam won the first ever Europa Cup Footgolf tournament in a tie with Attila Karakas from Hungary. Bulk having kicked an eagle at the 4th hole on the final day of the event claimed a mathematical edge over Karakas.
Bulk who recently won the Footgolf unofficial World Championships and a string of other major Footgolf events has a new sponsor and his hoping to turn professional very soon. No one has won more Footgolf titles than Bjorn Bulk of Holland in the short time that the Sport has been taken seriously.
Italy won the team event beating Rep of Ireland, Hungary, Holland, Spain and Portugal.
Footgolf burst onto golf courses in 2009 and has since boomed as a secondary attraction in clubs around the globe. Golf clubs are known for their rules and regulations so the idea of taking a football onto the course for a ‘kick-about’ seem unthinkable five years ago but that’s exactly what seems to be happening the world over today. Played with a standard sized football, kicked towards an oversized hole and flag-pin, FootGolf has even been given the PGA seal of approval.
With more than 70 golf courses on the Costa del Sol in Spain FootGolfers are now being welcomed with open arms to simply help cover the weekly costs of a club house. Surely it won’t be long before we see a Masters event, Green Jacket, Claret Jug or Golden Boot to the winner?
Footgolf Europa Cup Andalucia was organized by EFGF European Footgolf Federation and AFIES Footgolf Spain.
