On Saturday, April 22, Atalaya golfers dug deep into their pockets to support a very worthy cause – The Non-Violence Project Foundation.
The 18-hole Non-Violence Trophy charity tournament was held on the Old Course.
This tournament is new to Atalaya and is the brain child of long time member Claes-Göran Kalborg, who has agreed to sponsor the tournament for five years.
This year’s tournament winner is Gunnar Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt is the proud recipient of a 19 cm knotted gun sculpture hand painted by American professional golfer Dustin Johnson.
Mr Johnson is one of several well-known personalities to craft their own personal versions of the original knotted gun bronze sculpture.
The original was created by world renown Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd. One of Mr. Reuterswärd’s three original bronzes is on permanent exhibition at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
The knotted gun is the symbol of the Non-Violence Project Foundation. The project ‘s mission is to “inspire, motivate and engage young people on how to solve conflicts peacefully.”
