The annual meeting of golf directors and marketing managers took place recently in Malaga. Atalaya Golf Director Andres Sanchez attended the event where it was announced that the region has over 50.000 federated golfers, the first time in ten years that this number has been achieved.
President Pablo Mansilla highlighted the work done by the various golf schools in the area in promoting the sport and the value of the professional tournaments held throughout the year. He also referred to the upcoming Solheim Cup in September, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Andalusian golf.
A point of ongoing concern was the lack of a resolution to the petition made several years ago by the RFEG to the government to reduce the VAT rate on golf courses from 21% to 10%. This request was backed by numerous associations including clubs without a golf course and golf club owners lending their support to the Spanish Golf Federation.
The action plan for this year includes visits to some of the major golf fairs and tournaments in Europe, and exciting times lie ahead for the industry.
