Always with the desire to keep improving, in Atalaya Golf we are working on the remodelling of the practice areas between the 17th and 18th holes of the Old Course to give a better service to our customers and members. This area will not only serve as a new putting green and short game area, but also as a test area to improve our course in the future.
We are going to test two bunker systems to see which type is best suited to the sands of the area and the changing weather in our area.
Below is a video of the BetterBilly Bunkers, this is a system which, thanks to a resin, makes it possible to achieve a firm gravel area without losing its drainage capacity.
At the same time, thinking about the future, with the climate change that is being noticed in the increase of temperatures, it has been decided to implement a much more resistant grass. That is why the greens will be built with a variety of mini bermuda which is more resistant to high temperatures and water of poorer quality (as it should be remembered that for the irrigation of our lawns we use purified water with high pH and salts). In addition, this type of grass has a large root system and is therefore less susceptible to diseases and lack of water. It has a fine, dark green texture which makes it very attractive visually and allows for a magnificent ball roll.
Its establishment will be considerably quick as once the cuttings are planted it takes about 6 to 7 weeks to get the surface on which it has been placed to become kickable.
