This past weekend, Atalaya Golf & Country Club had the honor of hosting the Von Limburger Open Championship on our fantastic Old Course, a tournament held in memory of the esteemed course designer, Bernhard Von Limburger. It was a special weekend, filled with excellent golf, laughter, and memorable performances, all honoring Von Limburger’s lasting legacy in the world of golf.
The event was graced by a very special guest, Verena Thost, Bernhard Von Limburger’s daughter, who joined us to support the tournament that celebrates her father’s incredible contributions to golf course design and especially to the Atalaya Golf & Country Club course. Her presence added a meaningful and emotional layer to the event.
The tournament saw exciting results across the board. This year’s men’s gross score champion, Oskar Osala, finished with an outstanding 141 strokes, earning him €500 in prize money. Close behind was Frank Stockmans, who delivered an impressive 148 strokes. In the women’s gross category, Doris Müller took first place with 161 strokes, and also claimed the title in the net category with 145 points, tying with runner-up Manuela Esculapio, both demonstrating remarkable skill.
In the men’s net category, Gunnar Ottoson earned a special prize of three months of complimentary green fees at Atalaya with an impressive score of 143 points, a well-deserved reward for his performance.
A Grand Celebration Coming in 2025
Next year, 2025, marks an especially important milestone: the 100th anniversary of Bernhard Von Limburger’s victory in the 1925 German Amateur Championship, where he claimed the iconic “Von Limburger Cup,” a trophy he also won at the German Amateur Closed Championships in 1921 and 1922. This centennial anniversary not only celebrates his excellence as a course designer but also highlights his skills as a player and his influence in both German and international golf.
To commemorate this historic centenary, the next Von Limburger Open Championship promises to be even grander, with remarkable prizes and special events honoring Von Limburger’s legacy in golf history.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants! We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for this incredible weekend, honoring both the sport and the enduring legacy of Bernhard Von Limburger. We look forward to welcoming you all back to the greens next year for an even more memorable celebration!
